What staining method can be used to differentiate Pappenheimer bodies from reticulocytes?

Question 2

Why do we see Howell-Jolly bodies in patients who have had a splenectomy? Explain your answer.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The spleen is responsible for pitting out RBC inclusions including remnant DNA. In cases of splenectomy/autosplenectomy, the Howell-Jolly body is the remnant DNA.
