Answer: Step 1: Antigen causes the release of chemoattractants to draw neutrophils to it. Neutrophils diapedese from the marginal pool in blood vessels into the tissues toward the antigen (chemotaxis).
Step 2: Antigen is opsonized with antibodies produced by B lymphocytes so that the PMNs can recognize them.
Step 3: The PMN engulfs the foreign antigen to form a phagosome.
Step 4: The PMN granules fuse with the phagosome (phagolysosome) and chemically digest it.
