To recertify as a CMA, the credentialed medical assistant must:
 
  A) obtain 60 hours of CEUs within a period of 5 years.
  B) obtain permission from the educational institution from which they graduated.
  C) retake the Certification Examination for Medical Assisting.
  D) obtain 60 CEUs within a 5-year period or retake the certification exam.

Answer to Question 1

Medical assistants must act to protect the patient yet remain within the bounds of the law and the scope of practice. Because it is illegal to act outside one's scope of practice, medical assistants should be comfortable declining to accept the task.
