The birthday rule is defined as a coordination of benefits rule that states that, when children are covered under the policies of both parents, the insurance policy of parent with the birthday earlier in the year is the primary insurance for the children; the insurance policy of the parent with the later birthday is the secondary insurance

To trace a claim is to investigate the reason why a claim is denied for one service or the entire claim.
