There is a slight difference in cost for medical assistants compared to registered nurses. The cost for medical assistants is typically lower. This is because the medical assistant cannot perform functions without direct order from the supervising physician. The registered nurse, however, is able to make triage and care decisions independent of the physician, which makes the nurse more at risk of making a mistake based on his decision.
