Answer to Question 1

a. A;
b. O;
c. A
Arthroplasty is an operative procedure to place an artificial joint. ORIF surgery involves the
insertion of a plate and screws to stabilize a hip fracture and allow for healing.

Answer to Question 2

According to the standards set by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), antibiotics
must be stopped 24 hours after the anesthesia end time. Studies have shown that administration
of antibiotic prophylaxis for more than a few hours after the incision is closed does not offer any
additional benefit to the patient. Instead, prolonged administration may increase the development
of pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics and may increase the risk of the patient developing a
Clostridium difficile infection.
