Atrial fibrillation often occurs in patients with CAD and HTN.

Clots (thrombi) may develop in the fibrillating atria as a result of stasis of the blood. These clots may
travel as emboli to the brain, causing a stroke, or to the lungs, causing pulmonary emboli.
