It is sometimes difficult to remember whether one has taken one's medication. What techniques might you teach M.P. to help her remember to take her medications each day?

  Name at least two.

Question 2

The internist decreases M.P.'s HCTZ dose to 12.5 mg PO daily and adds a prescription for benazepril (Lotensin) 5 mg daily.

M.P. is instructed to return to the clinic in 1 week to have her blood work checked. She is instructed to monitor her BP at least twice a week and return for a medication management
appointment in 1 month with her list of BP readings.

Answer to Question 1

Use a day-of-the-week medication holder so she can see whether she has taken her medication for
the day.
Make a checkmark on her calendar each day when she takes her pills.
Place her medication bottles in an area that is convenient for her so that she can see the
medications and take them.

Answer to Question 2

M.P. had been complaining of dizziness, which may be caused by orthostatic hypotension. The
elderly might be more sensitive to hypotensive effects, and dosage adjustments can help reduce this
problem.
