A client, recovering from a fractured arm, is scheduled for an x-ray 3 weeks after the injury. The nurse explains to the client that the purpose of this x-ray is to:

Answer to Question 1

A hematoma will form at the fracture site within 24 hours after the injury. Fibroblasts invade the fracture site within 48 hours after the injury. The callus will reach maximum size in 2 to 3 weeks after the injury. This is the purpose of the client's x-ray 3 weeks after the injury. Ossification of bone healing will not occur until 3 to 4 months after the injury.

Answer to Question 2

Ciprofloxacin should not be administered within 2 hours of taking an antacid. The client does not need to limit fluids or restrict activity. Nausea is not always a side effect of this medication.
