Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 1
The three major risk factors for spinal cord injuries (SCI) are age (young adults), gender (higher incidence in males), and alcohol or drug abuse. In spite of the substance abuse, the 28-year-old female would have a lower overall risk for SCI than another example. The 50-year-old female with osteoporosis and the 35-year-old male who coaches a soccer team are not at increased risk for SCI.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 1, 2, 3, 4
The goals of care for the patient recovering from spinal surgery are to maximize comfort, provide effective pain management, promote correct body alignment, and prevent further injury. Promoting nutritional intake is not a goal of care for the patient recovering from spinal surgery.
