Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 1, 3, 5
Tumor lysis syndrome is a risk in patients with leukemia who are undergoing their initial treatment with chemotherapy. Tumor lysis syndrome develops when a large number of malignant cells are destroyed by treatment with chemotherapy or radiation. The resultant by-products of cell lysis can overwhelm the body's ability to effectively eliminate them, leading to hyperkalemia and hyperphosphatemia with secondary hypocalcemia. Hyponatremia and hypermagnesemia do not occur with tumor lysis syndrome.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 1, 3, 4, 5
The chemotherapeutic regimen for acute lymphocytic leukemia includes daunorubicin (Cerubidine), an antitumor antibiotic; vincristine (Oncovin), a plant alkaloid; prednisone; and asparaginase (Elspar). Cytarabine (Cytoxan) is used to treat acute myeloid leukemia.
