Studies have found that to achieve benefits with CLRT or kinetic therapy, rotation must be aggressive, and the patient must be at least 40 degrees per side, with a total arc of at least 80 degrees for at least 18 hours a day. Kinetic therapy has been shown to decrease the incidence of ventilator-acquired pneumonia, particularly in neurologic and postoperative patients. Complications of the procedure include dislodgment or obstruction of tubes, drains, and lines; hemodynamic instability; and pressure ulcers.
