Answer to Question 1

Answer: 4

1. Deep breathing, but not coughing, is advised.
2. Coagulation time is checked prior to the procedure.
3. Elevating the head of the bed will not place enough pressure on the liver to prevent bleeding.
4. The client is positioned on the right side, which allows client's own body weight to provide downward pressure against the liver and upward pressure from the mattress; this reduces chances of internal bleeding.

1. The client should void immediately prior to the procedure to avoid accidental bladder puncture.
2. The client is usually positioned in a sitting position.
