Answer to Question 1

Answer: 1

1. The client with DIC is very ill, and has both inappropriate clotting and bleeding. The client might bleed constantly at IV sites, under the skin, and from many organs. The priority of care is to closely monitor the client for bleeding.
2. Clients with DIC are likely to have laboratory studies drawn every 1-2 hours.
3. DIC clients are usually on the ventilator, and receive fluids through a central line.
4. X-rays are not routinely done on the client with DIC.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 4

1. Frequent ambulation is not a requirement of prednisone therapy.
2. The client with thrombocytopenia will not have surgery for this disease.
3. Diet counseling is not an effective treatment for thrombocytopenia.
4. Prednisone is an immune system suppressant. Interventions that protect the client from infection are the priority of care.
