A client is started on statin therapy for reduction of high cholesterol. When the client asks why blood work is needed routinely to monitor liver function, what should the nurse explain?
 
  1. The drugs inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver and may produce harmful effects.
  2. The drugs have been known to cause hepatitis in some people.
  3. It helps to monitor the response of the drug.
  4. All drugs are metabolized in the liver and it is just a safe practice.
