Answer to Question 1

Answer: 1

1. The kidney and liver of a child are immature, and drugs are processed and excreted differently than they are by adults, making the child more likely to experience a reaction to the drug.
2. The danger with drug administration to a child is adverse reaction, not that the child might spit out the drug.
3. Children might metabolize drugs more slowly than do adults due to immature kidneys and livers.
4. Children need lower dosages of medications due to their size and potential slower processing of medications.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 3

1. While family situation is an important part of the health history, it has no bearing on the administration of medications by the nurse.
2. Immunizations are important because they should be kept current, but the information does not affect medication administration.
3. It is a priority for the nurse to check the client's allergy status before administering medications to a client.
4. Capillary refill is not an assessment necessary for the administration of medications.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
