When providing care to a client who is receiving any medication, it is important to monitor the client for signs of an allergic reaction. Taking NSAIDs with food may help reduce irritation of the stomach and prevent an ulcer. If you take NSAIDs in high doses, the reduced blood flow can permanently damage your kidneys and it can eventually lead to kidney failure and require dialysis. Abrupt discontinuation can have serious side effects. NSAIDs have been linked to heart failure; therefore, this action by the nurse is not appropriate when providing care to this client.
