Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 2

The hub of the needle fits onto the tip of the syringe. The cannula or shaft of the needle is the long part of the needle, and the bevel is the slanted part of the tip of the needle. The barrel of the syringe is the part where the calibrations are written, and the plunger is the part that the nurse depresses to inject fluid from the barrel.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 2

Pediatric clients are at risk for fluid overload if too much fluid is administered over a short period of time. As a result, volume-controlled infusions are the safest method of administering fluid to pediatric clients, because they limit the amount of fluid given at any one time. Bolus, push, and intermittent IV infusions may be used cautiously, but are not the best method of administration.
