Answer to Question 1

As an adult, those children are free to choose the Amish way of
life, but they should have that choice. How should the rights of children be balanced
against the rights of parents in this situation? Do you agree with the dissenters and, if so,
why?

Answer to Question 2

How far would you extend this principle in parents' rights to educate
their children as they wish? What practices would you prohibit by parents? If immigrant
parents insisted that their children not be taught English, should they have that right? If
religious parents insisted that their children not be taught from any book which
contradicts their sacred text, should they have that right? How would you accept the
Amish practices but draw the line on others? What principle could you develop to draw
that line?
