Type AB blood has both A and B antigens on the red blood cells; no antibodies are present in the blood plasma. A person with this blood type could receive Type AB blood, Type A blood, Type B blood, or Type O blood. Type O blood is the universal donor. Type AB blood is called the universal recipient.
