Endocrinology is the healthcare specialty that studies the anatomy and physiology of the endocrine system and uses diagnostic tests, medical and surgical procedures, and drugs to treat endocrine system diseases. The suffix -logy means the study of, the prefix endo- means innermost or within, and the combining form crin/o- means secrete. So the medical word definition of endocrinology is the study (of organs and glands) within (the body that) secrete (hormones).
