Answer to Question 2

Sound waves are collected by the auricles and are then directed to the external auditory canal. The canal channels the sound waves to the eardrum, which is the entrance to the middle ear. The eardrum converts sound waves to mechanical vibrations, which are transmitted to the inner ear by the ossicles. Vibrations are passed from the stapes to the cochlear channels and are then carried by the fluid through the cochlea like small waves on a tiny ocean. When the vibrations reach the organ of Corti, they cause the dendrites to change position, which triggers a nerve impulse that travels to the brain. The temporal lobe of the brain interprets the impulse into sound.
