They're both "new versions" of fundamentalist sects.   Despite the Mormon's having a brand new holy book, the movement, like the Taliban's Wahhabism seeks to return to the "original" version of it's religion.


Then of course you can draw parallels to it's rejection of the modern world and  pop culture, as well as it's history of violent militancy to support itself.  When you want a theocracy, your religion generally endorses violence to get such a thing.

that depends on what you mean by "mormon".

the dictionary defines "mormon" as the LDS church - which would have absolutely nothing in common with the taliban aside from the fact that they are both comprised of human beings.
but IF you define "mormon" as including all groups that use the Book of Mormon in their religious studies then you would have the common ground of controlling fundamentalists....
it's not technically (nor vocabulary) correct.
