Stratum Lucidum is a layer lying directly beneath the stratum corneum. It is present in the thick skin of the palms and soles. Cells are flattened and filled with keratin.
Stratum Granulosum produces a large amount of keratin, which is the basic structure of hair and nails.
Stratum Spinosum means spiny layer. This layer contains Langerhans cells, which are responsible for defending the body against invading microorganisms and superficial skin cancers.
