A ureterectomy is an excision of the ureter and is classified to subcategory 56.4X. Explain what the fourth digits are used for and what the instructional notation states.

Answer to Question 1

Fourth digits are used to identify the extent of the ureterectomy as partial or total or not otherwise specified. The instructional notation instructs the coder to also code the anastomosis other than end to end.
