Answer to Question 1

Answer:
A  Conventions  Conventions describe how PCS codes are constructed and the basic rules of using ICD-10-PCS. As an example, the guidelines state that the alphabetic index is used to locate the appropriate table for constructing a procedure code; each code must have seven characters in order to be complete; and values for each character must be selected from the same row in a table.
B  Medical and Surgical Section Guidelines  These guidelines apply only to the Medical and Surgical section (value 0) in PCS. The guidelines are organized by character and each contains general guidelines that apply to the Medical and Surgical section as a whole, and provide additional guidelines that apply to other elements.
C  Obstetric Section Guidelines  This is the only other section, besides Medical and Surgical, that has its own specific guidelines. The information guides coders on which procedures, among other things, fall under the Obstetric Section.
