Brian is an unfortunate 45-year-old male who developed Guillain-Barre syndrome a little over a year ago. He lost the use of his lower limbs when the disease left him paralyzed from the waist down. He has adapted fairly well and gets around in a wheelchair. He lives at home with his wife and two teenaged daughters. Due to the extensive amount of time he spends in his wheelchair, he developed a decubitus ulcer on his sacrum. It was treated aggressively, with antibiotics, debridement, and the like, but attempts to heal the ulcer have failed. It has progressed to stage 4. The patient is being admitted for skin grafting in the hopes that this will heal the ulcer once and for all.
