Neutropenia refers to a low number of neutrophils. Even if the total white count is extremely high, there can still be a decreased number of neutrophils. This situation often occurs in lymphocytic leukemia, in which the vast majority of the white cells are lymphocytes.

An immune disorder that causes a person's immune system to create antibodies against their own red cells, resulting in red-cell lysis and subsequent anemia.
