A clonus is a form of involuntary muscle movement marked by rapid contraction and relaxation. Clonus is more pronounced than fasciculations. When testing a reflex, the beat is the number of times the muscle contracts and relaxes. A 2-beat clonus is a muscle reaction with two distinct contraction-relaxation cycles. When testing a reflex, several beats (contractions) of clonus is a sign of a neurological disorder.
