Answer to Question 1

Swelling of the appendix and surrounding tissue can constrict blood flow by putting pressure on the capillaries surrounding the appendix. The reduced blood flow (reduced perfusion) reduces the oxygen concentration (ischemia).

Answer to Question 2

Blood in the feces that is too small in amount to be detected visually (ie, without laboratory testing).
