sclero: hardness
osis: suffix meaning a process, condition or state; usually refers to an abnormal condition or disease
This term refers to a condition of the arteries that occurs when fatty deposits collect in the arterial walls, leading to hardening of the artery. This hardening prevents the arterial walls from expanding and contracting normally.
