A mother with a child with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis calls the clinic nurse because the child is having a pain exacerbation. The mother asks the nurse if the child can continue with her range of motion exercises at the time.
 
  The appropriate nursing response is: 1. Range of motion exercises should be done every day..
   2. Have the child do isometric exercises during this time..
   3. Administer additional pain medication before doing the exercises..

2. Isometrics can increase the pain. Non-weight-bearing exercises would be a better choice for the child.
3. Pain medication should be provided to aid in the child getting the most out of the therapy.
