Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
The family has a new member that has a birth defect. The outcome statement that would be most appropriate for the family would be for the parents to seek out information about the birth defect. The parents limiting involvement with extended family members may indicate that the family will be isolated. The father learning to care for the infant so that the mother can return to work does not take into consideration if the father is employed. The mother planning to return to work after 6 weeks as planned before the delivery does not take into consideration the newborn's health care needs.

Answer to Question 2

B
Feedback
A This is not normal and indicates neurovascular compromise of some type.
Paresthesia or numbness or loss of feeling can indicate a serious problem and
can result in paralysis.
B Swelling causes pressure to rise within the immobilizing device leading to
compartmental syndrome. Signs include severe pain, often unrelieved by
analgesics, and neurovascular impairment. It is not uncommon in the forearm, so
the inability to extend the fingers may indicate compartmental syndrome.
C The inability to extend the fingers often indicates neurovascular compromise. Fat
embolism causes respiratory distress with hypoxia and respiratory acidosis.
D This is not related to damage to the epiphyseal plate.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
