prevent SIDS in infants: place healthy infants on their backs to sleep, use mattresses with a
firm sleeping surface, avoid exposing the infant to secondhand smoke, and offer a pacifier
for sleep. In addition, bed sharing is not recommended, and parents are advised to put the
infant in a safe bassinet or crib in the parent's room for sleeping.
