Answer to Question 1

D
Human chorionic gonadotropin is produced exclusively during pregnancy, which is why it is the basis for pregnancy tests. Estrogen, or estriol, levels increase throughout pregnancy, but the levels are not used to diagnose pregnancy because estrogen is present throughout childbearing years. Progesterone levels are not used to diagnose pregnancy, because they are present even if the woman is not pregnant. Luteinizing hormone levels are not used to diagnose pregnancy.

Answer to Question 2

A
Side- or back-lying are the positions of choice for the healthy preterm infant to provide developmental support. Prone position is used in the NICU for infants during hospitalization, but should not be used at home, because of the risk for SIDS.
