Answer to Question 1

C
Elevation of the lower extremities will help alleviate edema associated with increased circulatory volume and the weight of the growing uterus associated with the third trimester of pregnancy. Avoiding salty food may help prevent or decrease edema, but this is not the best answer. A low-sodium diet is not prescribed for the edema associated with a normal pregnancy.

Answer to Question 2

A
A glucose of 25 mg/dL is a critically low level, and the neonate should be assessed for respiratory distress to determine the best route for feeding. Hypoglycemia is a common complication, and a professional nurse should first assess the neonate for respiratory complications before notifying the pediatrician. After assessing for respiratory distress and noting that the neonate is stable, the nurse should have the neonate breastfed or administer glucose via nipple feeding.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
