Answer to Question 1

B
The endometrium thickens as estrogen levels in the blood rise to stimulate the release of LH from the anterior pituitary during the proliferative-follicular phase. During the menstrual phase, the endometrial lining is discarded. During the secretory phase the endometrial lining changes in substance to provide a glycogen-rich environment to foster implantation. There is no ischemic phase in the menstrual cycle.
