Local anesthesia refers to the loss of sensation from a small area of the body after infiltration with a local anesthetic. General anesthesia refers to the loss of sensation from the entire body secondary to the loss of consciousness produced by
intravenous (IV) or inhalation anesthetic agents. There is no anesthesia known as specific anesthesia.
