Answer to Question 1

B
Maternal infection is a risk with this procedure, and it is contraindicated if the client has an active infection in the cervix, vagina, or pelvic area.
The procedure can still be performed; however, Rh sensitization may occur if the mother is Rh-negative. Rho(D) immune globulin can be administered following the procedure.
This procedure is usually done for women over age 35; however, if the woman is at high risk for fetal anomalies, her age is not a contraindication.
This procedure is done between 10 and 12 weeks.

Answer to Question 2

A
The nurse should clarify the client's statement and allow her to verbalize her feelings.
