Women should not douche; use tampons; use vaginal creams, spermicide foams, creams, or jellies; use vaginal lubricants or moisturizers; use vaginal medications; or have sexual intercourse for 48 hours prior to the exam. The best time to obtain a Pap test is 5 days after the period ends. Women ages 19 to 39 should have a Pap test every 3 years.
