Untreated hyperthyroidism leads to low calcium, high phosphate, and low magnesium levels. Seizures can occur due to these imbalances. The nurse should assess the child and family for noncompliance. The other actions may be appropriate, but this is the priority to prevent further problems from occurring.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
All actions are appropriate for this child. However, hypocalcemia can cause fatal cardiac dysrhythmias, and the child needs to be placed on telemetry monitoring so the nurse can assess and intervene immediately if this occurs.
