Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
Methimazole is used to treat hyperthyroidism. With fever, nausea and vomiting, and agitation, the child is demonstrating manifestations of thyroid storm, which is a medical emergency. The parent should take the child to the emergency department.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Because the levels of thyroid hormone are low, the anterior pituitary gland keeps secreting more and more TSH to try to force the thyroid into producing its hormones. This also clues the provider that the problem is in the thyroid gland itself, not in the brain regulating system. The other answers are not accurate.
