Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
For term infants, a normal blood glucose is greater than 35 mg/dL or a plasma concentration of greater than 40 mg/dL. This infant's blood glucose is normal, so the nurse should document the findings. No other action is necessary.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
AquaMEPHYTON is given to newborns to promote normal blood clotting. The infant's intestinal tract is sterile at birth and does not have the bacteria needed to create vitamin K, a necessary component of normal clotting. Giving the infant an injection of vitamin K promotes blood clotting and prevents bleeding.
