Answer to Question 1

Answer to Question 2

Endorsements are when a person (often a celebrity) speaks positively on behalf of a brand. The person can also be an expert or a regular person, as in the case of a past customer. Experts give credibility to an ad. Regular people who speak on behalf of an ad are more believable (they are like me). When a celebrity endorses a product, the hope is that people will associate the positive aspects of that person to the brand (like success and beauty).
The pros of celebrity endorsements are that the positive aspects of the person will be associated with the brand, and this will increase sales. The cons are that if the celebrity commits a crime, behaves badly, stops succeeding, etc., the brand can suffer as these negative qualities will start to become associated with the brand. To avoid this, companies can use a spokes-character for the brand. An example of this is the Keebler Elf who is used in the commercials for Keebler cookies.
