Uncertainty avoidance measures how threatened people feel by uncertain circumstances. It also measures how much they have developed cultural barriers to uncertainty. Cultures with high uncertainty avoidance scores resist new ideas and change and prefer to stay with past patterns of behavior. Examples include Greece, Japan, and France. In contrast, cultures with low scores are more willing to take risks. Examples include Singapore, Great Britain, and the United States.
