D. Virtually all contracts might be said to restrain trade.. A literal reading of the restrictive language in the Sherman Act might prohibit most contracts in business rela-tionships. The courts, therefore, ruled that only those contracts, combinations and conspiracies that unreasonably restrain trade are illegal. This approach has become known as the Rule of Reason.
