Answer to Question 1

A
Recently, the European Commission blocked the merger of MCI Worldcom and Sprint because the company would be able to dictate prices for Internet access in Europe. The avionics answer is from the blocked Honeywell - General Electric merger. The telecommunication infrastructure was not an issue in the decision. British telecommunications providers may or may not have opposed the merger. Importantly Britain is not part of the EU so it would not have directly influenced the decision.
