Answer to Question 1

C
Latin American Free Trade Association (LAFTA) was an attempt by member countries to establish a free trade association. Its demise was attributed to the disparity in the level of development of member countries, and to the protectionist policies of countries with enormous foreign debt experiencing high inflation, currency devaluation, and economic crises. This may be found in the Free Trade Agreements section (4-2b).
