Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

Companies get ideas for new products from consumers, competitors, channel members, and consultants. For international companies, consumers in one market may suggest product ideas for products in other markets. For example, Haagen Dazs developed a caramel-flavored ice cream for Argentina. The company brought this flavor the U.S. where it is a successful new product. Competitor's product in the test-market phase are vulnerable to having their ideas copied. For example, KAO developed a superabsorbent diaper for Japan. Procter & Gamble quickly developed its own superabsorbent version of Pampers in response. Channel members are sometimes closer to the consumer than the company. The knowledge that they have can be used to generate ideas. This may be found in the Generating New Product Ideas section (10-3a).
