Answer to Question 1

A person's height partly relies on nutritional status, which depends on a person's food intake relative to the work the person has to perform, whether the person is able to remain warm in cold weather, and the diseases to which the person is exposed. Height, then, can be used as a measure of health and well-being, and therefore a measure of the standard of living.

Answer to Question 2

A trade surplus is a situation when a country exports more than it imports. A trade deficit is a situation when a country imports more than it exports.

It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
